The term Injury Solicitor is a common to the European legal systems, particularly the UK, and is basically the same thing as a lawyer her in the United States. An injury solicitor is someone who represents a client in the common law system of Europe who has been injured and is bringing a case to court.

With this hub, I hope to cover some of the basics on how to become an injury solicitor as well as the benefits and job opportunities.

What is an injury solicitor and what do they do?

In the basic sense, an injury solicitor will act on behalf of an injured plaintiff in a case of law.  They will help to define the specific legal arguments of the case, researching law journals and precedent before arguing the case in an actual litigious context in court.  The injury solicitor services are often times provided on the basis of a commission of the end settlement, with some larger firms charging upwards of 20-40 percent of the final case settlement.  With injury cases this can sometimes be millions and millions of pounds.

Why become an injury solicitor?

Well, first off, if you are living in the United States then you must want to move to Europe.  In the US you would not be referred to as an injury solicitor, but rather a personal injury attorney. More or less a difference in semantics in the basic sense, but there is also of course a different set of legal rules and application that you must learn.

Aside from the simple geography, and whether you want to be an injury solicitor or a personal injury attorney, the main motivation you will need is a strong sense of passion for helping others.  Law is difficult, challenging and sometimes very ugly.  You see the underbelly of the world at times, and you really need to be internally driven to help people.

(Sometimes people laugh when I say this because they think becoming a solicitor is all about the money!)

Injury Solicitor Salary

Speaking of which, the salary opportunities of becoming an injury solicitor are quiet enticing. The legal profession is very competitive, so you can expect a minimum of 5-10 years after completion of University before you are making the big bucks.  That being said, the average starting salary of an entry injury solicitor in the London area is probably around 20-30 pound a year.
